Default Help! Clutch is gone?

23000 miles on 2000 S2000 - dealer is telling me the rattling/buzzing noise from what sounds almost as if it was from under the dash is the need for a $1400 new clutch - that the pressure plate and throw-out bearing are gone. Please clear up this up for me -- WAS THERE EVER A HONDA RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM??

I see that there was a service bulletin TSB 00-054 - anyone have this or have access to it? Appreciate your help - that is way too early in my opinion to need a clutch and this seems like a chronic problem. Any advice greatly appreciated - BTW for what it is worth bought it a year and half ago with 11,000 mi from a older guy who drove slow on the weekends - I put the next 12,000 on normal driving (well normal for this car!!) Thanks -- Adam

Welcome to the S2K International site. On our front page, https://www.s2ki.com/ you will find a link to "service bulletins." Within there you might find a link to all sorts of TSBs, maybe even the one you're looking for.

Thanks for playing.

Well folks good news - went to see the Service Manager today and explained very nicely to him my/his problem, particularly the fact that I did not appreciate being told by the service guy that the clutch was shot as a result of me riding the clutch when he very well knew or should have known about this chronic problem. The decision was made shortly thereafter that the dealer would be replacing clutch and fixing the second gear syncro problem (TSB 00-055) at their cost.

As for the last post, no doubt that if it is a purely "cosmetic" problem (in terms of only a sound, not a blown clutch) then it doesn't need replacing. But how many poor schmucks have been snookered into dropping 14-1500 over the last four years for a new clutch because of service people telling them what I was originally told. And the fact that there have been so many problems without a recall leads me to wonder out loud . . . . class action suit??
