Default Heater broken?

Heater doesn't seem to work or be at all effective. I live in Austin so it doesn't get that cold, so it took me a while to notice this. In cool weather it takes a long time for my heater to warm up. Even when it's at 3 bars on the temp guage the heater air is ice cold. In cold weather it doesn't work at all. I checked the coolant level and it's fine, even did a flush and fill. Any ideas? Could it be the thermostat? BTW, I'm using Honda antifreeze and Mobil 1 10w-30.

Thanks

You probably didnt bleed your coolant lines correctly when you did the flush and fill.

I ran it with the radiator cap loose til the engine warmed up and then I added more coolant. But it was doing this before I did the flush and fill and the coolant level was fine.

thanks though

First, check to make sure that your heater and rad hoses are HOT. If they are, then it is very likely that your heater temp control valve on the incoming heater hose to the heater core is not being moved by the cable. Have you installed something or fiddled with something in that vicinity? That valve is located near the battery. You will see a sort of lumpy black box in the heater hose just before it goes into the firewall. Have someone move the temp control repeatedly from cold to hot and see if the cable moves that lever that rotates the valve. If it is NOT moving that lever, then either the lever has jammed up against something or the cable itself is moving freely within the clamp on that lever. For the time being try to physically move that lever by hand to the other end of its travel and see if you get any heat.

Wow, xviper you know everything! I recently pulled the battery to wire my amp. I'll definitely check that out. Thanks.

Coolant was just low, I hadn't properly burped the system, and it was low as well before I did the flush and fill.

Thanks, guys.
