Thumbs up Help Car Accident...........

I had an accident a couple of weeks ago and the insurance company is still repairing it.
They won't look into the engine saying that if there is a problem to take it to honda to get it repaired. Even though I told them something could be wrong because what happen was that I missed 4th gear and went into 2nd gear at around 88-91mph. Instantly the rear end locked up and I lost control. (also a mustang clipped me slightly in the front causing me to spin uncontrollably).

My insurance company says that the only thing that would happen is that my tranny would lock up and there shouldn't be any dmg.

I'm asking all the experts here what should i look for when I get my car back tomorrow (hopefully)? The insurance companies says that they test drive the cars to make sure everything is okay before releasing the car to the customer but somehow I doubt that.

I'm thinking of changing the diff fluid, oil fluid, and tranny fluid to see if there's any metal present. Anything else I should check?

Zac

so you mechanically over-rev'ed? I'd be most worried about the motor at this point. If you get a flashing check eng turn it off and never start it again... Might have bent valves...

Well after i stopped the car stalled obviously. But I tried to start it back up and it fired right up and no check engine light was on. I tried driving forward but couldn't since my wheel alignment was way off and had to wait for a tow truck.

Any other thoughts....?????

Anyone????

CEL or no, if you were at that speed in 2nd there is a good chance of engine damage. Depending on various conditions the rears breaking loose may have saved you, maybe not. A leakdown test and retainer inspection would be my first stop, and if all is well, follow with another retainer inspection in a few hundred miles to see if valves are dropping. The order of destruction depending on the severity of the over-rev seems to be:

- 1st. retainers crack allowing valves to drop, this requires visual inspection and may take some time to detect, during which car will probably run deceptively well. Hence, coming back to check again in a few hundred miles.

- at higher engine speeds, valve to piston contact results in bent valves and usually a CEL, compression/leakdown should reveal this damage

- at much higer speed, and rarely, ka-blam-o as engine detonates, fortunately not your case

Hope you get it all worked out, good luck.

people have overreved the car, gotten no cel, and the car ran great...... then suddenly 6 months later, a cracked retainer from their overrev finally gives way, and wham, piston to valve contact, and you're looking for a new engine.

get the retainers checked. it's absolutely necessary that you do this.

thx guys for the input. Once I get the car back, because I still haven't gotten it, will be to get the retainers checked. Well other than that, i'm just praying to get the car back. I miss driving the car and I've been driving a truck and grand marquis. Talk about floating down the road. Lmao.
