Default HELP! CEL, air pump not on

heres what my car is doing.... it threw an engine code a few days ago. the air pump will turn on when the car is cold for a few seconds, then turn off and the engine light goes on right away. tried resetting the ecu, but thats not doing it. when the car is warm and been driven around for a while, it will start and the air pump will stay on and the car runs like normal. but when its throwing the code when cold and just starting to warm up, it surges at idle like mad. it surges between 1600 and 1900. i cant get this to go away. does anyone have any clue what is going on with my car. please help, thanks a lot

Nathan

What's the code? You say the CEL comes on. Does it stay on? They way you describe it, it sounds like it comes on and goes out. Is this so?
The air pump will always come on when you start the car. If it's a cold start it will stay on for about a minute or two, depending on just how cold outside it is. If it's a warm/hot start, then it will stay on for up to a minute. After a start, the idle normally fluctuates at a higher level. The length of this also depends on how cold it is outside. The idle should stabilize once the engine begins to warm up.

the engine light goes on and stays on. when i reset the ecu, go start the car... it starts, air pump comes on for 2 seconds (even when cold) and then air pump shuts off and engine light goes on instantly.

as far as the cars idle, it never goes below 1600 and it has a quick surge between 1600-1800. any help would be great guys

You need to pull the code and go from there. I've heard of the airpump or the airpump controller going bad on these things but only knowing the code can you begin to home in on what needs to be repaired.
It may also be related to the Idle Air Control system.

you need to pull the OBD-2 error code and then start the troubleshooting proceedure in the helm manual.
