Thumbs up HELP! Installing Comptech CAI **UPDATE!

can anyone suggest a good way to remove the vacuum hoses, coolant hoses, etc???

the rubber is like hardened around the pieces it's connected to, and I don't want to break anything. the clips are coming off easy enough, but pulling the hoses off is like wrestling with a gorilla... or am I imagining it?

help.

thanks all.

EDIT : ok, got all the hoses off and replaced, but I've got another problem now - I've dropped the box in, but only the side bolt and the front bolt are managing to get in. Can't get the rear bolt (towards firewall) in for the life of me. Heeelppp.... any suggestions? Anyone?? Ideas?

You can put a little WD40 at each end and give it a couple of minutes to work in. Then, rather than "pulling" them off by holding the rubber part, use a flathead screwdriver to "push" them off (you're still pulling but the screwdriver is actually pushing the end of the hose off the metal part). Work around the tubing end's circumference till you get it to break loose.
If all else fails, just cut off the hose at the end of the metal part. You're going to extend them with new hoses anyway.

Squeezing and twisting with pliars always helps get stuck hoses off. Grasp on the area of the hose covering the plastic nipple (I hope that makes sense).

Thanks for the quick response!!

The WD40 will probably do the trick (I hope) . I did try using a flat head screwdriver to push the hoses out, but they hardly budged. Along with the WD40, they should come out fine now.

I did think of cutting the hoses, but I think I may restore the stock air box one day. But I guess I could get replacement hoses pretty easily though, right?

Anyhoo, thanks a bunch!!!

Having put one on myself, I can tell you it's a pain in the ass. Just follow Xviper's instructions by using a flathead screwdriver (I didn't need the WD-40 on mine). Don't worry about hurting the hoses, they've got plently of give. Even if you do screw one of them up, chances are you'll replace it with the ones that came with the intake. The Comptech intake is a bugger to install, but if you take your time, it fits perfectly, and performs very well. Good luck!

Thanks for the help all!
WD-40 and bent nose needle pliers did the trick. But... I've got another problem now.

I've dropped the air box in, but only the side bolt and the front bolt are managing to fit in/line up. Can't get the rear bolt (towards firewall) in for the life of me. Heeelppp.... any suggestions? Anyone?? Ideas?

I remember that bolt well. It is a ROYAL pain in the ass to get it lined up because the intake box is hitting the padded air conditioning line beneath. All you have to do is force the box down and over as hard as you can (I had my roommate do this while I lined up the bolt). It takes persistence, but when done correctly, the airbox fits like a glove. Good luck and keep at it!
