Default HELP!!!!! Major hesitation after VTEC.

I need some advice.

I was driving home from work the other day, and I was hitting the home straight. I turned left at the light in 1st gear and hammered it. I had hit VTEC a couple of times on the way home. Right after 6200RPMs there car started hesistating just like if I had hit the rev limiter. I got a little scared. My car has 14,006 miles on it.

I naturally went home right away and check the oil. It was a little low. I had been running Mobile 1 sythentic 10W30. I was 3800 miles into an oil change. I poured a court of oil in, and let the car sit overnight.

I took it to Honda the next day because it hesitated again. I had them do the 15000 maintenance early just to be safe. They changed the oil and filter. They couldn't produce the problem. I had no problems for two days. Car was running fine.

When I took it to work this morning it did again to my dismay. I checked all hoses for intake. I've ingested no water. The night of the original problem there was no rain or puddles. No leaks, and oil is perfect. I originally thought it was an oil pressure issue.

I reset the ECU tonight. Didn't work. Car seems fine up to VTEC. No hesistation. Not the clutch because it's not slipping. Of coarse, Honda is going to blame it on the I/H/E. Can't be. I've had them on for a long time with no problems.

Any suggestions. Could I have bent something internally? Sound like a spark plug? I'm at a loss? Any help would be greatly appreciatate. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've been having the same problem over the past week, mines turned out to be the MAP sensor, if i give it a good hard whack every morning it's ok (got it booked 4 replacement on monday).

Have you over revved the engine at all? If not i doubt it would be damaged valvetrain causing troubles.

Other than that if there's no CEL, the hesitation that high in the revrange could be due to a spark plug failing, faulty leads or coilpack.

In light of this i'd say give your MAP a whack and see how it goes. If this fails to solve then take it to a dealer and look 4 error codes on the ecu.

Best of luck identifying the problem. The next time your able to hit redline smoothly and cleanly, you'll fall in love with the car even more!

Does this problem happen only when car is cold? Or does it happen when car is hot?

The problem happens right after I get three bars on the temperature gauge.

i have a feeling its your map sensor OR a faulty vtec solenoid(it controls vtec engagement, gets a signal from the ECU)

I think it is the MAP sensor. If the VTEC solenoid was bad, it would just stay on the lower lobes, but it would still rev (with less power).

How much is a map sensor? Should it be covered under warranty even if I have after market products installed? Thanks for all of your help.

You don't necessarily have to replace it. Do a search and you'll find that many of us have been able to use the "tap tap" method of "fixing" the map sensor problem.
