help: strange brake problem
hi to all,
1) the left hand rear disc and brake pad only seem to be in contact on the outer half of the disc surface (a not too young spoon disc with new hawk pads), what is going on ?
2) after a right hand side rear end rebuild (following an unfortunate contact with a wall at Spa-Francorchamps?) which included changing the rear right hand-side brake disc (rotor) the brake system is behaving very strangely, ABS coming in too early, noises coming from the master cylinder area and extreme squealing from the back at the end of braking .....
- is this because I didn?t change both rear disc together and the system can?t handle two rear brake discs in different states of wear
- or did the body shop screw up the rebuild of the rear end of the braking system ????
(and does the brake system have a default or protection mode if it thinks something wrong ?)
hhheellppp, I?m still hoping to be on the old Dijon Grand prix race track in 8 days !!!!
regards
Robin

1)you need to bed the pads in... do a search.
2)something is wrong, and from your description, I can't tell what it is. There's no issue with using rotors that aren't the same. A hydraulic brake system has no issues compensating for differing rotor widths.
The squeeling is probably because the shop didn't grease the shims on the back of the pads. As for the rest, I can't hazard a guess.

thanks for your quick reply,
the body shop took the car to Honda garage who plugged it into the diagnostics system and they said (apparently) that there was a defect in the rear left hand braking system (ie the corner with the older disc and not the freshly rebuilt other side)
btw, looked at the excellent stoptech white paper link and that old disc maybe showing the symptom described as:
"discs that had turned into shallow cones at operating temperature"
brgds
