Default Help with a thunk noise in rear

Often lately seems to happen when going around a corner and I hit a bump I get a "thunk" from the Left Rear. I've double checked my spare tire and it's tight, don't have a speaker box and don't have a spacer in the coil. Have had my car a little more than a year and this is relatively new.

Thanks for any help.

Travis

check the sway bar bracket and endlink. The bar has a bushing, but if a bolt comes loose, the bracket can clunk against the frame.

You're supposed to make sure the guy is dead before you stuff him in the trunk.

now THAT I did forget to check on!

Swaybar mount seems to be solid.

I think we are describing different things, I can be going around a curve, gentle or otherwise and if I hit a bump in the road I get the "thunk". Doesn't seem to happen if I hit something like railroad tracks or bumps in the road while going straight.

Something catching in the shock valving maybe?

Look up Technical service bulletin TSB 01-1201. Rear axle spines may need grease.

Hello,

I am a neubie to these forums and S2K ownership. I have a Blue 2002 with 28KA miles that I recently bought used. I get a thunk or banging noise from the rear of my car. I think it is coming from the right rear. I sounds a lot like a worn out shock absorber bushings on a normal car. I have driven the car with an empty trunk, had the car on a lift and the technician who did an alignment could not find anything loose. It does not seem to happen on large bumps like RR tracks but usually happens when lane marker dots are hit on the right side at slow to moderate speeds. It does nor seem to matter if I am turning or not.

I also get a groan type noise when changing from forward to backwards or vice versa and once in a while when breaking. I suspect this is due to the rear hub spline issue I have read about here. I plan to take the car to the dealer to have them look at that as I assume that is a warrantee item, right?

I did have another thunk in the car which I did isolate. It was the head of the lug wrench banging in its cutout in the foam compartment. A thin wrap of filter foam took care of it.
