Default HID comes on automatically.

Hi all!

Newbie here from Canada, I just purchased an 05 over the weekend. Woohoo!!

This is an US imported S2K which has modified with the HID to come on automatically to meet the DRL requirement.

The HID is running on all the time which I am worried that it will pre-mature wear out the bulb. (It's running on full power as there is not different in terms of the light output when I turn the switch to on at night)

How do I go about convert it back to the stock setting and search of other method for DRL? Any pointer where I can go about looking?

(Personally I prefer to do something like this http://alavigne.net/Motorsports/FeatureRep.../DRL/index.jsp)

Thanks!

You may have to do some searching to find out how the HIDs were set up to be used as DRLs. The only procedure I'm familiar with is the one you linked to. Without knowing how the HIDs were wired to be used as DRLs, I don't think we can help you figure out how to undo it.

Personally I wouldn't be worried.. my HIDs have been on for every second of the car's 80,000 miles and they are still going strong.

That sounds like a dumb way to do DRLs - I'd think the high beam approach would be easier.

That said, it's hard to give advice on where to look since we have no idea how "they" rigged the HIDs. If the lights run anytime the ignition is ON then it might be a simple jumper somewhere and maybe a relay, but if they work like real DRLs and are tied into the parking brake and stuff then there is likely a more complicated box installed.

I think you're just going to have to poke around under the dash and hood and look for anything that doesn't look factory. Then take a hatchet and chop the crap out of it. Seriously though, give the car a good once-over and let us know what you find.

Hello,
I am also in the same situation.
The only difference is that when the 'DRL' was wired, every time I turn the ignition key, my xenon lights would come on, regardless if the e-brake is on or not.
I guess this was the quick and easy way.
I've was setting up a Hamsar module to change this to use 30% high beam light as the DRL.
However, after installation, it did not work as expected.
I'm guessing that when the xenons are on, the system believes that it no longer needs DRL lighting, thus the DRL high beams won't come on.
Would this be the case? and where do you think I should look for to undo it?
Ideally, if I undo this setup, the xenons will only come on when I turn on the headlights, therefore, my DRL module setup should work properly.

Any help is very appreciated.
If you need any additional info/pics, let me know.

Thanks,
Kookie

^Most likely the guy tied a wire from the fuse box to the headlight - look at the 'on when ignition is on' fuses - look for one that has a wire coming off of it - most likely thats the one. If i had to do a DRL i would do it that way - much easier.

I'll look into this.
Anyone have a diagram layout of the fuse that would be used for ignition power to the lights would be?

Thanks,
kookie

Follow where the wire runs back to. If it was ghetto rigged it will be easily noticeable.
