Default Homemade vtec controller

So today i got bored and wanted to see what it feels like to have vtec kick in late and early i hooked up a switch to the + battery and the other terminal of the switch to the controller and had the switch in the cabin so i tested it at 5000 and felt a loss of power even at 5500 maybe a lose of power i do think though about 5800 or 6000 would be a good place to put it i even tried after 7 even 8 there was quite a kick but of course this is only for your butt dyno and will make you slower. so without a tune im guessing 5800-6000 is where to put it but to my its not worth messing with it

you'd have to explain this "homemade" vtec controller, as i can't conceptualize what you did, maybe an electronics diagram...

LOL good effort but vtec kicks in anywhere from 5800 - 6200 depending on engine load and throttle position.

Good effort/idea But a waste of time, i wouldnt like to know what the AFR is doing at the time and it will be in 'grey' area where the stock ECU doesnt know its in vtec until 6200.

I am guessing he took out the signal that comes from the ECU to the solenoid and wired in a little switch... so that he could just flick it when he floored it??

But yeah... could be quite intereesting just to try it for fun... activating it at 7500 or something would give you a fair kick up that arse... but once you're vtecing it that's it... your going fast and rarely coming out of it...

keep playing with it and it will blow your engine..trust me my buddy did the same in his h22 accord and BOOM..the reason is that the computer know when vtec hit and adjust the timing and fuel , when you rig it like you have it the computer still think its like factory and you hit vtec really lean (which is what happen to him) so please spend some money and get a controller and get it tuned

I agree. i don't think it would be worth risking your engine to take a short cut as such. vafc2 or neo and a tune. its cheaper than an engine!

i'll have to try what nickamsweet said, setting vtec at 7500 rpm, we'll see if it snaps my neck off...

just to clear some things up first off i tried this out just to see what it felt like and took it off an hour later what i did was just make a positive current that goes to the solenoid and the switch turned the current on or off that now i tapped in to the wire harnes right at the solenoid and unpluged it so i could see what it was like at 7500 but ya it was only a small test without a tune vtec changing seems to not do crap
