Most people use Mobil 1 75W-90 Gear Lube. You can find this at just about any auto parts store. You only need 1 bottle.

I have a silly question.

What about those people that get their cars completely serviced at the dealer? I mean, most of us here are not under that category. But I'm sure there have to be a lot of S2000 owners with the wrong type of diff. fluid. NSX owners, too.

I'm sure that "competent" dealers have apropriate fluids, even if they aren't genuine Honda fluids.

VTM-4 is designed specifically for the Acura MDX and the Honda Pilot (electronic limited slip) rear diff.

It is not GL5 or GL6 rated.

Do not use it in your S2000.

Thanks for the info in this thread. I had my diff fluid changed at 6k miles after reading threads here. After doing so, I posted and got a reply from XViper telling me about this issue with the type of fluid.

I called my dealer and they said they did not use the Honda fluid but an SAE90 GL5 fluid they have. He said they would not use the fluid for the MDX, Pilot, or CRV, as their diffs are different than ours. He didn't know the manufactuer of the fluid, but next time I'm in for an oil change, I'll ask the mechanic and he should know.

I shamelessly plug that we have Redline fluids in the S2KI Marketplace.

We have Redline 75W90 or Shockproof HeavyWeight for the stoplight racer/diff abusers.

how often is it reccomended to change out the differential fluid? is it easy to do it yourself, or will you need a lift?
