i also understand your argument of mobil/amsoil over oem honda filters that are not designed for the s2000...

...but we have a scenario here where honda necessitates a specific filter...does anyone know why, and if so, do the other brands address that issue?

i'll use the one that is specifically designed for the s2000.

Instead of parroting this same comment over and over, tell me what makes the S2000 unique in terms of the demands it places on an oil filter...high oil pressure? nope...high oil flow? nope...as I said, the FD RX-7 flows more oil at higher pressure than the S2000 and uses a SMALLER filter housing. I've used Mobil 1 and K&N filters on that car for YEARS. Don't repeat platitudes, tell me specifically WHY the S2000 needs a "special" filter, other than "because the Honda manual says so", or I'm throwing the BS flag. Think a little outside the box! Sheesh!

or better yet I'll just keep using the Mobil 1 filter, enjoy superior performance, and just not care

Actually yes,the Honda S2000 specific filter does have specific flow and filteration characteristics
I have never looked at the Mobil filter for the S2000 but for other Honda applications it only had 4 flow return holes verses 6-8 on Honda filters and no they were not larger holes.
I cut one open myself and found the element to be thicker and restrictive so yes you can argue that it filters better but at the cost of restricting some flow.
You guys can use Honda,Mobil,Fram,Delco,Puralator,or whatever and nothing will happen to your engine as long as you're changing your oil and filter at regular intervals.
Like I said before the choice is yours and we're never going to come to an agreement on this forever debatable issue

Honda-Tech guys have already had this debate on filters as well
oil filter thread
there's more pictures of filters being cut open including the Mobil with the heavy duty dark element

High reving engines require more specific oil flow and pressure characteristics to handle the higher temperatures and pressure

I don't think the oil flow/pressure for a little 2.2 L n/a engine is going to be that high, compared to turbocharged engines in the FD or EVO, for instance...the "high flow" argument seems to be more rhetoric than actual fact

The solution would be to run a simple test of performance like this one

Either the synthetic media performs better or it doesn't, there isn't anything subjective about this issue.
