I did the map whack (w/ zip ties), throttle body clean, and iac valve clean today. I didn't have a terrible idle problem, my car would shutter when coming to a stop, and it seemed i would have to rev up a bit when starting to roll with the a/c on. I also was hoping to pick up a lil throttle response. Anyways, this was a lil scary for someone with no mechanical experience. I was a little worried to see a lil pool of carb cleaner inside the carburetor (I thought I was going to hydrolock my engine), but with further research I knew this was normal and that it would be evaporated b4 it ever hits the engine. I also dropped the 10mm bolt for the iac into the engine bay and couldnt find it, but picked up another from Honda. ANYWAYS, the results, first start up was hesitant but ended up turning over. The first roll start, the rpm's dropped to 600, so I thought I made my car a lot worse instead of better. Eventually the computer seemed to figure things out and I ended up with a steady 5 or 6 bars at idle, even with the a/c on. Throttle response seemed to improve as well, but this may have been just a placebo effect. Anyways, just wanted to share my experience. Thanks for reading.

Since I just finished this procedure, I thought I would add this information for anyone else who may undertake it. The Honda Service Manual calls for the 10mm bolts holding the IAC valve in place to be torqued to 8.7 ft-lbs (104.4 inch-lbs). As well, I removed the gasket with a small screw driver before spraying the cleaner into the IAC. Also, I used throttle body cleaner (use some rags over it while spraying the chambers to keep it from flying all over the place, like into your eyes) to to clean out the chambers and the center chamber was the dirtiest by far. Minimal coolant leaked out (less than an ounce) but definitely put a rag underneath the IAC before unbolting it.

The results from the procedure (at least that which I can discern) are a smoother idle, and far smoother acceleration. I had been experiencing slightly chunky acceleration when jumping on it.

Kudos and thanks to negcamber and NVMY4N for the on engine pics.

Starting to notice my car doing the same thing.
i not a mechanic dude, so it will help me a lot if you guys clarify some phrase for me. What is "map whack" and after finishing clean the system how do the ecu reset? Does it automatically reset itself when taking the iac off the throttle or do u have to reset it yourself? And the phrase "ECU Learning", does the computer automatically fix it for u after connecting the iac back and starting the car?

your reply will be very helpful

Thank you

what should be used to clean the chamber spins the air, I pulled out my iac and when I was cleaning it with carb cleaner I saw a lot of residual left on the chamber walls , ie the black carbon build up . Also how do you properly clean the rotary part. Should I use some metal bristles or a q tip? I basically unloaded a whole can of carb cleaner in there and it didn't seem to solve the issue. After idle relearn there was still vibration. Thinking about opening it up again and do a more thorough clean.

A Reminder to everyone who's going to clean the IACV

Before you shoot any brake cleaner/Caburator Cleaner into the IACV hole. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.
I was looking closely to the IACV and shoot cleaner into it. The caburator clean splah in the eye. I flushed my eye under cold water for 15 mins and went to the hospital.

Lesson learned

Better safe than sorry. USE SAFETY GLASSES PLEASE

I cleaned mine the other day... and the problem didn't go away...

Cleaned it again yesterday and got the problem to go away... difference in cleaning....

Make sure that you get the little valve in the middle section to be free... and not gummed up.

I just took a little screwdriver and gave the valve a little push to break it free... cleaned it with that opened and now no problems.

Does it have to be Honda brake cleaner? I have some NAPA brake cleaner just sitting around in the garage. Hoping to save a few bucks in just use that. Will that work?

I did a map whack for my 06 and reset the ECU by taking the fuse out and started the car (everything turned off) and let it idle for about 10 minutes, turn off the car, started the car but it will not allow me to rev pass 3K. I tried this with 1st and 2nd gear and it will not go pass 3K and even on idle it will not allow me to pass 3K. Also, now when I rev the car sometimes it will dip really low and die. Any thought what the issue could be?

The main issue why I did a map what was due to idle issue when AC is on.
