Default How do you check a CEL on an s2000?

Hey guys,

I was on my way to work this morning and my check engine light came on. The car still runs perfect, nothing happened when the light came on.

I've only been an s2000 owner for 3 weeks, so I'm not sure if there is a way to check a CEL other than an OBD2 scanner?

I'm coming from civics, where all I had to do was ground out the jumper plug under the dash.

Thanks in advance.

Just check the gas cap dude. It can take awhile for the light to turn on depending on how tight it is.

Should be 3 clicks to make sure it's tight. It'll go away in a day or two if that was the problem.

You can go to Autozone and they'll read the code for free.

How do you check a code by grounding out a jumper? Pardon my ignorance.....

the best way to check it is to use an obdii scanner that will also retrieve freeze frame data. freeze frame can be very helpful for narrowing down the problem.

If the cel is for the gas cap you might need a new gas filler tube.
