Thumbs up How long will a new battery last on the shelf?

When I bought my car, I made the Dealer give me a new Honda battery because I thought the one that was in the car was going bad because of how slow it cranks over, turns out all S-2000s crank slower than all the other Honda cars that I'm used to. Anyway I have this brand new battery in my garage and was wondering how long it will last without being used, I give it a little charge once in a while. I've had it already for 6 months.

Give it a charge every now and then, and it will last a long time.

Batteries that are stored "wet" i.e. with acid in them have a self life of only a few years due to the sulfating of the plates. There are to many variables to give a definitive answer, but my experience over many years with many cars would be to say once a battery is about 4 years old you are living on borrowed time.

A battery that is sitting on a shelf must be charged every 6 months.
You can't let the voltage go below 12.3 volts (at no load) or cell damage will occur.
