Default How many quarts do the S takes

This is the first time I did self oil change for my S. Now I am living in a house, I don't have to take it to a shop for oil change.

I bought Mobil 1 10W30 synthetic oil in a big 5 quarts container. I have emptied the entire container into the S. But its only half way filled between the top and the bottom mark. Look like I am still half quart short to be completely full.

So my question is the S takes 5 and a half quarts or I got cheap by Mobil 1?

Thanks

Sounds about right. Mine takes between 5.2 - 5.5 liters.
After an oil change like this, 5 qts will be enough for the time being. Go for a drive to heat up the oil, check first thing in the morning and top up at that time. The worst time to check the oil level is right after a change and you've just started the engine to circulate the oil through the filter. That oil is still cool and will take while to come back down. If you top up at this point, you'll find an overfill in the morning.

I changed the oil and filter in my MY04 two weekends ago. I think the owners manual had capacity at 5.1 quarts. I put my car on ramps to drain, so the pan was not emptied completely. Long story short, 5 quarts exactly to fill it up. I guess the .1 quart is what was left in the pan from my draining it at an angle.

Um, did you start the car to circulate oil in to fill the new filter and then check it again the next morning? The filter will take almost 1/2 qt. Have you checked it lately?

I don't think you need to be a "member" to reply but I see you are one now.

I change my oil and filter at 3K miles but this is only because it translates to 5K KMs for me and thus, is easier for me to keep track of. There have been a couple a reports where owners have done oil analysis on Mobil 1 syn motor oil at over 5K miles and the analysis came back indication that there was a lot more service life left in that oil.

check out this report, it's dated back to July 96. http://www.xs11.com/stories/croil96.shtml
I would think today oil is made better than before. A 5K oil change interval would be okay.
