Default How much does the driveshaft weigh?

I am curious as to the weight of the S2000 driveshaft. Not wanting to remove mine, I am looking for someone that has removed theirs in the past and possibly weighed it. Thanks

Haven't weighed it, but I have had it out. It's light. Not worth trying to make a cf one, if that's what you're thinking - you wont save any real weight.

Same here, had it out more times than I'd care to admit to, but haven't ever weighed it. Not only is it light, but both ends have some seriously funky sh!t going on. If you were to do an after market shaft, you'd probably get stuck using the stock ends which account for most of the weight to begin with (~80%?).
Why? What's cook'n?

the driveshaft uses cv joints, not U-joints - that's where a lot of the weight comes from.

rough guesstimate, the stock driveshaft with cv joints weighs just over 30lbs. that's quite a bit actually, not exactly light.

I remember replacing my driveshaft in the Mustang years ago with a FMS one - all aluminum with slip yoke and U-joints - all for $139. Pretty cheap, and the stock unit weighed just over 30lbs. The replacement weighed only 7.5lbs with joints.

If you want a CF unit built, it will run you approximately 800 bucks and you'll need to give up your stock unit while they rework it. A lightweight aluminum version wouldn't be a bad idea, and would need to be balanced. But most of the weight might be in the cv joints.

I looked at mine when the car was on the lift for an oil change. I can't believe how damn small it is!

Ill bet that you could replace those CV joints with quality U-joints and not know the difference, seeing as the angles dont get very extreme between the tranny and diff. Maybe you'd need to compensate for extention, but there's a way.

I would have figured more than 30lbs though.

I've had mine out a few times, and it didn't weigh 30 lbs. I'd hesitate to say it was much more than 15 lbs.
