Default How to remove engine and trans as single assembly?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to strip the engine and trans out of my wrecked s2000 for an engine swap project. Is the easiest way to do that to just drop the entire front subframe?

Yeah I would think the easiest way is to drop it out of the bottom thus dropping the subframe.

Yep, drain all fluids, unplug all harnesses from their control units, label all wires so you know where they go, then disco the steeing coupler, the drive shaft, remove the shifter, and the front upper control arms. Plus another step(s) my dyslexic ass missed. Then you can unbolt the subframe support the subframe and tranny with a shipping pallet, raise the car while fishing the harness through the firewall.

I've seen it done from the done and personally dropped it from the bottom on the subframe. IMO, from the bottom was by far easier.

Without a lift, I find it easier to drop the trans and pull the motor out the top.

I'm spoiled I guess. I work in an air conditioned shop and my lift lowers flush to the ground and can go up to 20' in the air.

This is exactly what I've learned to do. Last motor pull with lots of distractions ended me up at 4 hrs.

Thanks for the information, guys. I'm lucky enough to have a lift (but not lucky enough for A/C) so I plan to drop the two as a pair.

With a lift for you drooping it from the bottom with the engine and transmission as one piece is the way to go. But for us normally people with just jack stands you must drop the transmission and use a cherry picker to pull the longblock from the top.
