Default How to Remove Start Button?

I'm struggling with how to remove the entire start button from my dashboard. I have pulled the entire dash panel out of the car, but I still can't seem to figure out how the start button entire assembly comes out. I can remove the logic board. I just can't get the entire barrel out with the button itself.

I found this old thread (see the link below), but it does not give me enough information to understand how to manipulate the metal lug that's mentioned. I think that's what's preventing me from removing the barrel since I'm able to work the tab that's on the opposite side of the lug. I've tried pressing the lug, pulling it, etc.

I need to replace the start button logic board and might as well do the entire assembly with the front button since the start button only comes as a complete assembly. But I don't want to inadvertently break my dash panel and have to replace that as well.

The service manual is absolutely no help and I can't find anything tangible other than the thread I've included above.

I had the same question when trying to replace the start button bulb. The metal clip is trivial to move but the silver-colored lug on the other side looks like it's fixed and isn't meant to retract at all.

Yep, that lug doesn't seem to move at all. I wondered if it would spin when the metal clip was depressed, but it looks like the barrel is keyed to the dash. I wasn't able to spin it. I also didn't try very hard because I'd prefer not to break things.

Did you just replace your bulb (or circuit board) and left the original in place?

Yes, didn't see any benefit in going through the effort to go any further with trying to remove the start button. Still curious how others managed it though.

I replaced my blown bulb with an led, so less likely to need to do ot again anytime soon. Did all the bulbs while it was apart.

The first time removing Start button I found tricky, even knowing that metal tab was there. Had to use more force than I was expecting, and it doesn't come straight out, it sorta cocks to side as it goes.

Then taking it apart to get circuit board out to get to bulb was a little awkward, thinking it might not go back together right like I was taking apart stuff not meant to be disassembled. But it was all cake. No issues getting it apart or back together.

I did not ever notice that the start button was illuminated. Will have to look the next time I drive at night.

The circuit board does not need to be removed. There is a round bulb access window on the top of the housing, see last picture.

Totally off topic here, but I am sending you a PM that is not S2000 related but is NSX related.

Sometimes they burn out, or the bulbs are very dim , I believe it comes on with the headlights. It helps to keep the button clean too, to allow light to shine outwards.
