Default how to take off valve spring?

hi:
I am in the middle of installing my toda spec As. I am having a hard time removing the valve springs. I don't have compressed air, so using that to lift the valve is out of the options. Just wondering is there a trick to remove valve spring without taking off the head? Or that's the only way I can do it.
Also, can someone give the torque specifications on the thing holds down the cams and the bolts holding down the head, thanks.

You really, really need to get a Helms manual. You spent all this money and can't find another $50 to do it right? I don't have my manual handy otherwise I'd look it up for you. As for the springs there are a couple of ways to do it. One is with a string (which I don't know how to do), and the other is to get the proper tools, which you don't seem to have. Starting a job without the proper tools seems to be a real big mistake as well.

Couldn't agree more..

buy a helms, buy the right tools... and enjoy working on your car, not struggling

I know the "trick with the string' and it will work if your running a small block chevy, I wouldn't try it on a honda..

what exactly is this trick with a string? and where do u guys buy this helm manual u were talking about? I heard about it a lot, never seen any place selling it. can someone look it up for me? thanks a lot the cams and cam gears are already in there, e-manage is wired, and it's kinda too late since the job is already started.
in case I have to take off the head, I know how to do it but I don't like it, i've done it a couple of times on my bike. can someone just look up the torque specifics for me? thanks

Not to sound pessimistic, but I just have a feeling this is going to end badly.
