I believe that Bernoulli's principle/Venturi effect does not apply here.

If the portion of the snorkel after the restriction were the same dimentions, or smaller, all the way to the engine- then air speed would be increased and maintained - but the dimentions are larger (again) immediately after the restrictive portion- which will decrease the air speed and cause increased turbulance.

Thus, the restrictive portion of the snorkel is just that.

Yes, I said that it was a restriction. But does it REDUCE power on a stock S2k? No, it simply doesn't, if anything it might add 1 hp. Minimal, but there is no power lost. My point is that if it were a major restriction you would see a loss in power by installing it. Because there is no loss, Bernoulli's effect is working perfectly here.

Thus the restrictive portion is not restrictive enough to pose a problem on stock S2k's.

Like I mentioned earlier however, once you start getting to higher power levels and requiring more air, yes it might. But by then I doubt you'd have a snorkle anyway.

All I can say is...nice work! Put a patent on that bad boy...or I'm going to tool-up and start selling them to all these anxious forum folks (and one for myself too!)

I'm ready to learn more and most probably order too!

Shame he's already put the design into the public domain

While everybody is going mod crazy to the airbox, does anyone have a solution to the rubber intake tube. Somebody posted a ti hardpipe a while ago to replace the rubber tube, looked cool. Carbon fibre would look sick
Might look cool, but I believe its fair to say that the rubber tube is the "buffer" that dampens vibration of the motor...so that those vibrations are not translated to the airbox. Rev a motor...and watch the motor "twist" on its own torque (yes, ours may be limited torque...but we have some ). That rubber tube keeps the airbox from wanting to "twist" along with the motor when you rev hard, etc.

I would pick one up if the price was right. I have one question about the design though, and keep in mind my training is in accounting so I am not claiming genius.

Anywho if you look at the picture the air has to kind of change directions a couple of times to make its way into the airbox because the hole in the fender is behind the airbox inlet.

Would a design that incorporated the same hole in the fender for air supply, but used an air tube that is connected to a new AIRBOX COVER that had tthe air opening on the side just behind the side metal hold down clip be less restrictive?????? Sort of a one piece design that includes both the airpipe and airbox cover in one. Just asking.

probably yes, but you would not be able to use that one corner clip, it would be more expensive, and, this design doesn't pose enough of a restriction to actually limit power, like the normal snorkle. Sure its a restriction, but not enough of one to matter. So he might as well keep it cheap and as it is.
