Whoa, anything less than 100mph wont give a snorkel a ram air effect, I think that's a little extreme.
I just think your comments about the snorkel are just personal opinions and not actual facts.
If you say so.

1. No NA engine will benefit from ram effect at speeds below high speed cruising. A very few cars will see benefits around 60 mph and up. Let's take motorcycle technology for example, since the S2000 is not unlike a motorcycle engine some say. The Hyabusa has a direct ram tunnel (no turns, only a curve) to the airbox. Suzuki claims it will not benefit from any ram effect until 120 mph.

2. Oh, and if you're disputing my "facts" about the restriction in the snorkel? Have you gone out, taken measurements and calculated the cross sectional area of the restriction and compare it to the area of the airbox intake hole? I did this years ago when I first got my snorkel. It's been a while since I had those numbers, so I can't tell you what they are, but the snorkel was most definately a lot smaller in area. If you'd like, I'm sure I can round one up and do those calculations again for ya.

OK, now it's your turn to give some "facts".

I dont have any facts/data about the snorkel, never claimed to. Maybe I should contact Spoon on their crummy design. I am not pulling stuff out of my a$$ either. You proved your point on the snorkel....

I'm in on this with HIGH interest!

I removed my Injen CAI about 6 mos. back due to installation of my Distinto front bumper and just being too afraid of H20 ingestion as a result of extra vents built into the bumper. Back to stock airbox. Definitely could appreciate reduction of heat bog .

Someone asked earlier about engine torque issues and concerns about this item moving with the airbox/engine without significant dampening in place. I don't know if anyone responded, but I believe I can say with relatively recent stock airbox reinstallation, that the airbox is quite fixed in place. Mounted at 3 (or 4 ) fixed metal mounting points. The engine's torque is dampened by the rubber hose/tube from the throttle-body into the airbox. The airbox itself...does not flex/vibrate/wiggle .

Spoon makes some pretty good stuff and some "odd" stuff. That snorkel was very innovative at the time and it works quite well. It's just that it has its limitations, but nothing else was any better for the time being. That's why I had one myself. Things change and things improve. New ideas come along and overshadow the old regime. That's just progress. This doesn't make them "crummy".

Oh, and I thought of another advantage of this new device over the snorkel:
No cutting of the slanted airguide or the elimination of the airguide.

I'd be interested in Dieselpilot's mod. Have we actually given it a name yet?

A couple other advantages:

No rubbing on the hood

-plus-

should be a helluva lot cheaper just based on the materials used.

Is this done with vacu-formed plastic?

It looks ultra nice.
