This car had a stock hood, and of course it was closed.
One contributing factor to this car is it was parked slightly uphill.
It only takes less than 1/4 cup of water to hydrolock.
Being that the OP had ALOT of water, it actully saved him. It stopped the connnect rod from going 99% to the top of the cylinder, where it has the most leverage to break the rod.
My last drifting meet, we drove home through an honest 16" of water because we got trapped. One guy hydrolocked, but because it was so much water, I was able to pull the spark plugs and expell the water. Car is fine, that was last Thanksgiving.
Bottom line....it only takes the slightest amount of rainwater, to trickle down between the hood and fender, into the AEM intake, and break a rod.
