If it is the IAC mechanism, there is no need to stop driving the car. A CEL that in on is not a dire emergency. Only if it's blinking.
The IAC stuff is situated on the side of the intake manifold. It includes a bunch of hose lines in the shape of a "U" and a valve/solenoid and as the title suggests, it maintains your cars idle in all sorts of conditions. Have you been having idle issues? It might not be IAC and the blink code you retrieved is incorrect. I have heard of a few cars needing new IAC valves/solenoids but on those cars, the idle was sporadic.

I'd like to know about this issue once it's resolved. I'm curious as to the relationship with the engine overheating and 'idle control valve".

IAC only works when you're idling. It has no effect whatsoever on anything from off-idle to WOT. Get it fixed, but it's not a very big emergency.

I'd have a code pulled before you do any work, though. AutoZone does it for free.

Checked first thing this morning and the CEL was still on. Set up appointment with dealer for this afternoon. When I left for the appointment, the cel went out before I had reached the end of the street. The dealer basically said not ti worry about it if the light was now out.

For now I tend to agree with him and I am going to wait and see if the issue repeats itself. I do not really want the dealer to start trying to troubleshoot a sporadic electrical problem as this could cause more problems.

I identified the iacv. There are no loose hoses and the wiring plug was tight. Everything looks like new. During the time the cel was on the engine operated and idled like normal, with and without the a/c on.

Boit, the engine was
