Ignition coils
Aloha from Maui,
My 2002 S2K is at 135k.
I’m planning to have the valve adjustment maintenance done.
After that I’m going to replace spark plugs.
Was wondering if ignition coils should also be replaced as it’s still OEM.
While I’m in there was also replacing tube seal.
Car is running great with no problems whatsoever! Car is completely original and stock!
This will be the first time the valve cover will be taken off as I have not seen any service paper work history that shows engine was ever tuned.
All other services were always done on time.
Looking for any comments and opinions.

I suggest you try to get the pre-adjustment and post adjustment valve gap numbers. If nothing else it will be interesting for me and maybe others to see how much the gaps changed in your ap1 over all those miles.
I would do the plugs at the same time. Given the age in years of your car I would probably replace all the rubber bits, including the seals, when you put the cover back on.

I agree!
Didnt think about that gap data. That’s a great idea!
Will post results after recommended service maintenance is done.
Thank you. (Mahalo)
This is why I posted to make sure all bases are covered!
Anymore ideas for me S2K members?

I just inspect the coil each time I replace the plugs. If the rubber seal and plastic parts seem fine --- and no blow-by damage, I just use them again. My S2000 has never shown blow-by damage. However, my Element had some on two coils. The first replacement of the spark plugs (about 30,000 miles). It had two loosely tighten plugs. That car was bought new.
FYI, old oem coils are better quality a d probably still have a longer lifespan left than new aftermarket coils.
If you do replace any, use OEM parts.
Most parts on this car are far better quality and higher performance than so-called performance aftermarket parts.
There is a thread on stuff for new owners to do and check. Go read it, and follow all advice therein.

I usually rotate my ignition coils every oil change. Flip 1 & 4 then 2 & 3. Just keeps the heat cycle wear about the same. I'm still on my AP1 original coils which test fine even compared to a new OEM set of AP2 coils. You can get the RSX Type S or 8th Gen SI or a few other OEM ignition coils that work on 00-05 S2000s.
