Default I'm an idiot

Couldn't believe it. Went to fill up my new 08 for the first time and hit the button on the far right thinking it was the highest 91 octane. Realized right when I finished fueling that it was 87 instead. Wouldn't worry so much if it was 89... but 87... Yikes!

The way I see it I have three options:
1. Siphon the tank and refill wtih 91
2. Add octane booster
3. Just drive it like granny for the entire tank and hope for minimal pinging.

Since I'm OCD about my new car, and have heard that fuel additives are risky, I'm inclined to go for option 1, but could really use some help from anyone that has actually siphoned gas from their s2000.

- Is it a difficult process?
- What's the procedure and what did you use? Is it as simple as buying a siphon kit from Kragen's and 15 minutes later, the gas is in my other vehicle?
- Is there potential for screwing something else up in the process? i.e. the fuel level float in the tank... if I hit that will I damage it etc?

Could really use some input from those that have actually done this or know about the structure of the filler neck and tank, so I know what to expect and can decide which way to go.

Thanks in advance for the help. This is a great community and I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge!

you can buy a tank siphon from a auto parts store that you can do by hand... or you can get a long 1/2 to 5/8 inch hose and stick it in the tank and then you suck really quick and hard next to your container thats lower than the gas tank and it will siphon its self... it takes a couple try's but it does work really well

I would siphon it as well. Get a few fuel containers, fill it w/ the 87 from your car and use it in your other car (if you have another one).

Your in break in period anyways right? Is the s2000 compression high enough to cause pinging?

you will be fine. My brother switched in his 05 accord from 87 to 93 all the time...but doesn't any more. and he is still running strong. Just to be safe if you have the time I would change it.

just add some octain booster and drive carfully, the s2000 will retard the timing to prevent pinging you just wont get the same performance

Another "you'll be fine". No need for octane booster, just drive normally and the ECU will retard the timing to accommodate the lower octane fuel. If you're in a rush, take a long trip on the highway. Just fill it back up with the good stuff on the next tank.

Some cars have special traps in the fill line to prevent siphoning. I don't know if the S2000 is one of them, but siphoning is not worth the trouble anyway.

You shouldn't be flogging on your new 08 hard yet anyways. This will further enforce you to behave during break-in
