Default Increased oil usage

My car has been using excessive oil for a few months. Two weeks back there was a spot of oil on the floor in the garage. I couldn't determine the source.

The day after the Spugen meet I had a 2 foot wide puddle under the car.

Since I had just had the supercharger off the week before I checked the oil return and Vtec solonoid. No signs of oil leakage. The pan was clean with no cracks and there was no oil on the under side of the engine.

At this point I am getting nervous and start searching with a white glove. After a while I notice one drop of dark oil hanging on the oil filter. I reach up to wipe it off and the oil filter is very loose. Two and one-half turns later the gasket seats on the engine.

What a relief, only a quart missing and I have located the cause. This was similar to those who had the oil filters come off while tracking thankfully it was caught without engine damage.

Now, the scarry part. It has been over 2000 miles and 5 months since I changed the oil. I would have expected this to occur shortly after the oil change.

From now on, I check the filter everytime I have the hood up and check the oil.

I always mark the oil filter with a sharpie. The honda filters have numbers around the lip, so I circle the one that's 'up', and draw a big arrow pointing to it. Then I just have to glance down when I have the hood up to make sure it hasn't moved.

you don't need to. lol. no offense, but everytime someone posts about checking something, that doesn't mean you have to go and check it yourself.

Did you use a filter wrench or your hand to tighten the filter ?

I hand tighten and then add about 30 degrees more with the wrench.
