Instrument Cluster Malfunction
About a month ago I filled up my S2k's fuel tank at gas station and proceded to drive home. During the drive home I noticed that the illuminated bars on the gas guage weren't all lit. Specifically, the guage was reading full but every other bar was lit but the ones in between were dim. I also noticed that numbers on the "trip" odometer were unlegible but the rest of the cluster worked normally.
Every time I restart the car, the cluster would operate normally for the first 20 mins. of driving and then malfunction. Sometimes it would go back and forth. I took the car to my local dealer to have the techs look at it. I was told that the cluster should be replaced.
After the parts were ordered and received, I finally took the car in last Thursday to have the cluster replaced under my extended warranty. In '03 my S had a similar problem with the cluster malfunctioning(erratic rpm during driving) and it ended up being the ECU. My S's new instrument cluster has been in since last Thursday and, lo and behold, the same malunction as before. What else could it be? I'm trying to get some insight. Could it be the wiring or plugs? My car will be back at the dealer tommorow.
TIA for any help or suggestions.
