Default Interior overhead lights are not working

I just bought an 2001 Silverstone and I noticed after driving it at night for the first time that my interior lights on the windshield do not work correctly.

They will usually come on when i flip the switch to ON (does that not work with the car running or something? Because sometimes it does not work), and they will always come on when pressed, but they never light up when the doors are opened.

Is this a fuse or a larger problem?

to have them turn on when the doors are open, it should be in the middle (between on and off)

check the door jamb switch/pin. when installing my alarm i noticed it was kind of loose. upon taking it apart, there was a lot of residue/dirt on the contact point. i cleaned it up, put it back together, and used a hot glue gun to make sure it didn't become loose again. works just fine.
