Default J's ETD problems

Hi
I have recently purchased a j's engine torque damper.
I am having trouble installing it,
It seems that the pre-drilled hole on the engine block is threaded so I can install the engine side mount for the etd...does this make sense or am I trying to install in the wrong place.
If I am doing it right is it possible to drill a new hole a little below it or something or somehow fill the hole and then re-drill it???
Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

I don't think you even can drill a hole. And even if you could you wouldn't want to drill a hole into the block. With the possiblity of cracking you just want to stay away from that.

There is only one place where it can screw into the block correctly and I think you have that spot. It's kind of hard to install incorrectly with how the bracket holds it. Installing should be tight to start with as it is supposed to dampen engine movement.

But just to make sure you're on the right track. You have to cut a hole in the heatshield. And then it should look something like this. I don't have a J's racing damper but it's the same design/location.

The ETD should just screw right in. The whole on the engine block should be threaded already, so the bolt that comes with the ETD should screw right in with the proper size Allen wrench...its a bitch to do it that way...but no way should you drill another hole (and for what reason?)

Thanks for the info. My problem is that the thread in the bolt hole is damaged for some reason so I can't get the bolt to screw in.

You could go to a hardware store to try to find the right size and length. Just bring the bolt in and ask someone to get the same size, pitch and length for you...no biggy.

try to re-thread it. I've never re-threaded anything myself but it seems pretty straightforward with the right bit. That's really you're only option.

Correct. just re-thread the hole in your block. Maybe tricky since lack of space, but it can be done.
