Default Jet V-Force and ECU Upgrades

I was browsing the Jet Chip website (http://www.jetchip.com) and noticed their V-Force upgrades for Honda's and the like. Knowing the improvement the Jet Chips do for domestic cars and trucks, I decided to e-mail them about it.

They said the did have one that would work on the S2000, and that the V-Force is perfect for small mods like intake and exhaust, and that it would get about 10-11 hp. They also said that they had a full ECU upgrade that would be good for larger upgrades (they didn't give specifics, but I'm assuming turbos and superchargers) because it is programmed specifically for whatever upgrades you have in particular.

Well, the greatest thing is, the V-Force runs $239 retail, and the ECU upgrade runs about $300. Sounds good for the price! (Sure as hell better than the Mugen)

Anyone have any direct experience with these? I'm only going on their effectiveness based on what I know about thier domestic applications. What do all of you think about these?

Hi infinitebass

I have a 93 Legend LS 6 speed coupe. When it turned 80,000 miles, I gave it a make over - 17" wheels, Eibach prokits, Koni shocks, then I put in the RM Racing intake and my 10-60 times dropped about .5 seconds. I then put in the Banzai exhaust and my 10-60 times dropped another .5 seconds. Then I put in the Jet ecu upgrade, and my car was substantially slower, by almost .5 seconds, ran rich, fouled plugs, and flunked smog. Jet paid for a new Acura ECU, refunded the cost of the Jet upgrade, and paid for a new set of platinum plugs. Although they responded well to a polite legal terror-gram, I urge caution to anyone who is thinking about a Jet ecu "upgrade" for their car.

Do you think it might have just been the ECU was not programmed properly? They should be able to reprogram it to run much leaner.

I definitely think Jet did not program the ecu properly. I had mine back to them 3 times before I demanded they unwind the deal completely. I think Jet just enriched the fuel mixture so it dumped fuel in the 2500-3500 rpm range. Some programming. This was the chip they said was specifically engineered for the Legend Type II motor (3.2 liters 230 HP).

I'd say stay away from Jet. I hear their product works on big US V8s, I don't think they have the know how to work on Hondas.

BTW, I went to a Dinan Stage II chip and got excellent results including a clean pass on my most recent smog test.

Jet has never and I'll repeat never put out a product that has increased power 10-15hp. Most of there application are just plane, power losers. I remember an article that was done that compaired ECU mods with upgraded ECUs like Comptech, Mugen, Spoon. In all cases the Jet applications lost power and caused other problems. I wish I could remember who wrote the article.

I read some reviews from other Forums and came to the conclusion that this was not the way to go when I upgraded the ECU on my ITR. I don't think that I would if you were smart.

Cheers

Jeff
