Default Just Recieved my Denso Starter.

So I just finally recieved my OEM Denso starter in the mail, and picked it up for about $200 Dollars, What I want to know is to what part on the starter I should lubricate? Or is it not recommended I lube it up? Please let me know. Thank you !

you don't want lube on the flywheel as far as I know.

Hmm, I was reading on a couple of forums, and it said that I should lubricate the Bendix gear, to prevent sticking, but I wanted to get a second opinion, So I dont mess anything up.

I've replaced several starters and never lubed anything up. Just remove old starter and put the new one in. Job done.

What year's your S2000 and do you have the Denso part number you used?
Seems it has been a while since you replaced yours. How did that starter work out?

I have a 2004 S2000 with 40,000 +/- miles, on occasion when starting makes a noise like something metal is whirring / spinning without enough grease. Noise lasts only a few seconds then goes away and does not do it very frequently. Local Honda dealer told me the starter needs to be replaced that its the pinion engaging into the flywheel sticking, and will eventually go. They quoted me around $575 for a brand new Honda starter installed, which by any means to me is a very high price given most starters are the same basic electrical design / solenoid / pinion with specific sizes to match a vehicle.

I see there are also DENSO re-built starters available for around $100-$150. Did you consider those?

Welcome feedback from anyone reading this post.

Thanks.

Mike
