Default K&N Drop-In Filter

Had my s2000 a week and a bit now and i'm loving it. Had a little paranoia about some sounds here and there but it seems all good.

I am looking at new air intake. I wondered how good the K&N drop in filter is compared to the FIPK. Id like to keep the car fairly standard but if the performance and Ive heard exhaust sound are greatly improved then I don't mind going the extra mile.

I have had the drop in filter for over 10 years now, maybe longer, no issues, no increase in noise and I have doubts as to much of a hp increase, it's just a less expensive alternative to the stock filter, you need to clean it every once in a while.
I have thought about the fipk option and never wanted to spring for it, car is loud enough for me already....

The FIPK is about the loudest intake for this car just short of pulling the lid off the stock box. If you want a idea of what one sounds like, try that and see what you think. A bit too obnoxious for me. Drop in filter isn't a bad idea though, will pay for itself second time you replace the OEM.

i have been driving with the lid off and i love it. Would it be a good idea to leave the box in take the lid off and put a k and n on just incase the stock filter gets damp?

The OEM air filter is a "pod" filter in a box and works well. No reason to change it. But I did within a week of buying my 2006 model two summers. Took that week in shipping. The intake noise is wonderful at WOT and is not obtrusive in the cabin. As with any intake or exhaust change hear the system in question on a long test drive before buying. This is paramount before buying an aftermarket exhaust.

lid off = cool sound but less power- its fact.

just go with the FIPK.

Drop in K&N is what I run. I've read that the FIPK and shroud thing you can get that directs air into it is about the best easy intake setup you can get. They say the two together is good for 8 - 12 hp or so if I remember correctly. They're expensive though so I opted not. Will just save those duckets for a supercharger later down the road.

Not to rain on your parade, but no intake system has had a scientific, factual dyno sheet showing "8-12 hp gain" on a F20C/F22C (or anywhere close to those numbers, as far as I know).

5Kw (6.7bhp) gain:

They should have obviously then tested the OEM airbox with the resonator plate removed to see if that was the actual restriction.
