Something else I noticed, when rotated in the reverse direction, there appeared to be toe contact on the other side of each tooth, proportionally the same amount as the heel contact shown above.

I have spoken with a few mechanics and have found out some new info about these gears. The 4.44's that are found the front diff of the 87 and 88 Mazda B2600 and B4000 are also the same gears that are in the rear also. The automatic transmition has either 4.10 or 3.9* gears. The manual transmition is the only one that has the 4.44's. And the 4.44's are on the front and the rear.

The same could be true with the Kia. The mechanic that I talked to said both the front and rear are the same ratio about 95% of the time.

This all can be verified by calling Mazda and getting the part numbers for the rear R&P for the appropriate Mazda truck and Kia Sportage.

The 4.625's ended up being around $500 after all the shipping and import duties. I've decided to just go with a set of 4.44's. If I'm ever in Ausrailia though, I'll have to drop by a Kia dealer.

From a geometric standpoint, you should expect that.

So I got ahold of a proper bearing separator today and pulled the Kai diff completely apart. The ring gear has N4KTF stamped on it, and the pinion has N4KMF stamped on it. The Kia thrust washer measured 3.29 mm (stock S2000 thrust washer is 3.47 mm, six sizes thicker).

Next step is to get some parts from Honda to rebuild my S diff and send some stuff out to the cryo guy. Has anyone else finished up a Kia swap yet? f20kills, you making any progress?

Chris.
