Is this related to a built motor failure?

Its my understanding the AP1 block is no longer available from Honda, but the AP2 is. Billman reported this recently.

I bet the engine build, all told, cost more than the new block from Honda would have. I would be really pissed at whoever told you blocks are no longer available, and a little at myself for not checking personally. Live and learn.

Thanks fpr sharing your expierence with community, so we can all benefit from this info. Your post was remarkably free of animosity. I would not be able to have the same restraint.

All AP1 and 04-05 blocks are no longer available from Honda. You can still get the 06+ block though, but in order to make it work in a 2000-2005, you must change out the crank pulse plate to the 00-05 version.

What does that entail Jordan? Is it difficult/expensive?

Just pull the one off your existing motor and swap it on. Chances are, you'd already be swapping everything over so the level of difficulty for that task should be easy.

I talked to Laskey about the leaking head gasket. His suggestion was to retorque the head. He did not offer any assistance. After hearing his comment about retorque it told me he was not interested in stepping back into it and if he really thought retorque was a solution, turn and run as fast as you can.
