Just came across this thread. Has anybody traced road noise being transmitted thru these drains into the cabin? I sense a pant load of tire noise coming from the areas of the sinks. Any split caps to cover the exit that only open when water is in the down tubes?

 

Interesting thought. You could stuff a rag into the sinks and see if the noise transmission goes down as a test.

This car makes lots of interesting sounds besides road noise!

 

Hey guys can the sink and piping be taken out with out doing what the service manual says? It tells you to take the soft top out. WTF!?

I tried metal hanger and Draino. Neither one worked well enough.

Try going up from the bottom. There's already pictures that show how to do it.

i used a cable wire.... the stranded one.

put the top down,

locate the sink,

and
put it in the drain whole from the top. while slightly pushing on it a friend was rotating it as a plumber would with a snake. it quickly went down and popped out from underneath.

no need for wheel to be taken off or go under the car

 

why would you want to take out the sink and piping? wouldn't that prevent water from draining out properly?

 

As a addition to this thread, I believe I have an odd place for a leak I've just discovered.

At first I thought it was my taillight gasket, then I thought it was the vent. After tracking it down further, it appears that underneath the trunk rubber seal, to the left (driver's side) of the latch water is somehow getting behind it and leaking through the two metal panels that seem to be tack welded there.

If you look through the two 2" circular holes on the ledge where the latch is and look back towards the rear you can see the seam.
