Default a little smoke

well, i can notice this at night when a car is pretty close to me with thier headlights on me, and i take it up to redline. its not a lot of smoke and really not thick, i can tell its a light grayish color and will start to come out right around 7-8K rpm. my friend was behind me and said he can smell it pretty well. i know its not coolant, cause the level has stayed the same for the past 9 months(how long i've owned the car). just wanted to hear from you guys. just about every ap1 i've seen at WOT from behind has smoked a bit. i burn a little bit of oil, on an averaged of 1 quart per 3k miles. i know i'm probably just freakin, but thats what i do best with this car. also, the car pulls awesome, runs great, just hit 44k miles last week. thanks guys!

pete

edit: also, a few days after washing it, i'll start to get a slight black dust on the back bumper, if i've done some 'spirited' driving.

Don't panic;I burn about one quart of oil per 1500 mile, when I drive it hard, and it's perfectly normal.
If,and when,I drive it like a "Granny",it does'nt burn a drop.!!!

i agree with you on driving it like a "granny". drove 900 miles to chicago, only engaged vtec a few times and burned just about no oil. i'm just concerned a little about the smoke, i know it is most likely the car running rich.

It's a used car? Did you or a previous owner remove the catalytic converter?

you know what, that is a damn good question. my exhaust isnt really that loud, but it does seem a tad bit louder than other stock s2k's. recently i changed the oil and diff fluid and i do recall seeing a heatshield for the cat.

and yeah, it was bought used at 31K miles

cat-back was always on...you might just be burning alot of oil...i got my oil changed at a local honda dealership and now my car doesnt have too much smoke coming out of my exhausts and it doesnt smell bad when i take it to redline.
