Default Loud Tapping/Ticking noise

Can any one help me out? This usually happens when I start the car and let it idle, but after the couble of revs, it goes away. It also happens when I come to a stop and the car is idling. I am pretty sure that is it the valves, but not not sure what caused them.

I been planing to do a valve lash adjustment but haven't had time yet. No sure if this problem is due to the valve lash because it doesn't happen all the times.

Thanks

Most likely it is your timing chain tensioner.

If its a loud fluttering/buzzing, its probably the tensioner...

If its a faint tapping that gets louder with more revs, it the valve lash..

Check out the FAQ's.

I agree with the above two.

it's not hard to change yourself. there is a DIY as well.

Just to add here....if the valves have never been touched, it is highly unlikely the noise is from valve lash.

I had some noise coming from the engine bay once. Kind of metallic, turns out, I forgot to do an oil change and the oil was low, the oil light came on after 7 thousand miles. Did an oil change, filled it up and it was gone. So, it was basically the pistons rubbing against the engine block due to lack of oil, hence the metallic sound.

Sorry I forgot the thread, but I will look into the chain tensioner. And while I am in there, I will check on the valve lash clearance as well.

Thanks again
