Thanks!
It has a lil rough idle. It dose hit vtec an Revs out fine to my knowledge. Starts fine. A yes it dose burn oil. But it dose feel “slow” but it’s hard to gauge that since It’s all I know. I haven’t driven another s2000 besides mine so I don’t know if what I’m feeling normal or not.

Why are you worried about this? What results would you like to see?
it was a matco compressor. Im just more or less wanting a good healthy engine. I was under the impression 220 n up is healthy numbers for a used s2000 motor. I’m just not super sure about specific engine stuff on s2000s.

I would find a reputable S2000 shop to do a leakdown test.

If the leakdown is excessive, then figure out where the compression is going.

Then there can be meaningful recommendations.

It doesn't really seem like there's anything wrong with your car though. It may be best to just leave it alone, assuming the shop that changed your retainers did a good job.

You went with a set of stock AP2 retainers, correct?

So prob head/valve related rather than another engine needed, and not cheep today and value of used engines are many $ks?
That would make your old engine very sort after if just had head problems

I would make sure they replaced the valve retainers AND cotters with AP2 parts. It's extremely important to be sure so that you don't have issues later.

If you have this engine rebuilt, its almost a guarantee resuot will be lifespan will be significantly less than if you do nothing and just drive it. Thats assuming there is an actual issue, and it isn't something simple like a valce adjustment.

These engines simply cannot be successfully rebuilt by anyone except shops that specialize in rebuilding them, and even then doesn't always end well.

What you're saying and/or what the shop(s) told you is all over the place. There's no way we can diagnose this though forum posts.

There must be a shop in the Bay Area that knows S2000s. Take the car there.
