Sev is correct, our rev limiter is a fuel cut type. All fuel stops flowing. This can result in a temporary lean condition. Furthermore, it isn't a very accurate limiter, allowing you to exceed the specified limit by varying amounts each time.

There have been a few cases reported where modified Hondas have been run on the rev limiter excessively (say in the middle of a corner, where a shift is inadvisable, lap after lap) and engine damage has resulted.

I prefer a 'soft touch' limiter which first drops spark on a cylinder and then rotates the spark dropping between cylinders to prevent loading up on fuel. After that, then a fuel cut if need be.

turkey - where did you hear this information??

As for situations where the engine detonates - anyone considering playing with fuel management should put on that device taht retards each cylinder when it detects pinging.

Cant remember what its called. J something or other???

That rev limiter lean condition is similar to my reasoning at a recent motorcycle safety class I attended. The instructor wanted everyone to shut down their engines after each exercise using their kill switch. I argued against that since my bike is fuel injected. On a carb bike the fuel still flows but with FI it can be made to stop instantly.
