Default Misshifted 3rd > 2nd - Modifry went off

I missshifted my Ap1 today I was about 7000-7500rpm in 3rd to 2nd (instead of 4th)

My recently installed modifry shift beeper thats calibrated to go off from 8600 to 9000 ever 100rpm went off ONCE. I am not sure what this means - I was hoping that maybe it means I only just ran into redline?

I was wondering if anyone who knows the gears etc can tell me how bad an overrev it was and whether I should take the car in to get checked out.

not sure if I was over 65 I wasn't much over - I was just trying to overtake someone who was crawling along at about 45. I just gave it a quick squirt of VTEC then back to 4th cept I managed to find 2nd

well you said it yourself, you only heard the modifry beep once, you probably got the clutch back in in time before you had a serious mechanical overrev.

If you cant tell the cars damaged, then its not

A mis-shifted car will sound like a diesel truck, shake side to side. Idle like crap etc... Your fine, be careful next time

BS!
A mis-shifted AP1 may show no problems initially! Posting bad info like this is exactly what causes people to have to fork out a lot more money to repair their car that they otherwise would armed with the correct info! A trashed engine is a lot more expensive to replace than a set of intake retainers! Post only what you know to be true!

In fact, he may have over-revved the engine to the point his intake retainers are cracked, but just short of bending valves. This many times shows no problems for several thousand miles (as the retainer slowly works its way up the valve) until it's too late - when the engine eventually drops a valve due to the damaged retainers and the engine is toast. This process can happen much more rapidly depending on the severity of the cracks in the retainers.

Dan_UK: If your car was at 7000 RPM in third (and your AP1 has stock gears and tire size), your car was going just shy of 72MPH. If you were closer to 7500: your car was going a little more than 76MPH. This equates to a mechanical over-rev of just shy of 9800 RPM for 72MPH, or up to ~10400RPM for around 76 MPH.
If you're not sure of your exact speed at the time of the mis-shift, I would assume your engine saw over 10,000 RPM which puts you right in the area where intake retainers start to crack. I would read up all posts you can find from Billman regarding cracked retainers, and then PM him so he can give you a quick and dirty run through on a DIY retainer inspection. I wouldn't drive your car until you've had your retainers inspected. Billman is the absolute expert regarding this issue (and the S2000 in general). Most Honda Techs would have no idea what to look for.

http://www.turnzero.com/technical_resource...gear_calculator
is a gear calculator. The pull down menu has both AP1 and AP2 gear ratios.
Adjust the RPM number to see what speed is achieved in any gear.

Dan...as a precaution, start saving to replace the intake retainers. Even if they don't show visible cracks now, the retainers could have been weakened and develop cracks later as Slipstream says.

I drove my car after a similar over-rev for a couple years but religiously checked the retainers every few months until I was ready to replace them.

If you just do the intake side as Billman recommends, it should cost less than $300 parts & labor.

hey thanks to everyone especially bob@modifry for the help

I hooked up the highest RPM on the modifry and it beeped 9 times so I guess its never been beyond 9000 RPM

The one beep musta been in hitting 8600, so I was close!

I'll be sure to have plenty of coffee so I'm awake next time I have to get up early and drive somewhere!
