I had this same problem in my 2000 S2000. I was trying to pass car and I'm not sure what happened because it was so fast. But I think I miss shifted and then I was not able to get into 6th. It was like it wasn't even there. I took it to the shop and it cost me $500 in labor to get it fixed. Something became miss aligned. Good luck.

The other day on the highway I wanted to kick it. I wanted to drop it from 6th into 4th. I accidently hit 2nd!! I tried to match revs w/ 4th, but 2nd is pretty low. I didn't hear or feel any grinding. I was going around 70mph. The tires actually locked up for a brief instant until I quickly realized my mistake and repressed in the clutch. I saw the rpms go all the way to redline, but didn't hear or feel any rev limiter. Does anyone have any idea if any damage might have been done to any part of the car? I haven't had any problems w/ it since the event.

it's doubtful you did damage since 70mph is only about 5mph over redline in 2nd gear.

There is no rev limiter if you miss shift. If you had the gas floored while driving it will electronically cut fuel when you get to approx 8200 rpm. When you mechanically force the car to over rev by missing a shift thats when your engine can go boom. But you did the right thing by immediately pushing in the clutch. You just have to be careful.

8200rpm? he's driving an ap1/f20c. fuel cutoff is around 9100rpm.
