Default MLEP Discontinued?

i have been trying to locate this product for the last week with little success. after calling all the local auto parts stores, i decided to call valvoline to see if they could help me locate a couple of bottles. well, the rep at valvoline told me the product has been discontinued, which explains why i cant find it anywhere.

are there any alternatives people have been using to switch out the break in oil? i thought i read somewhere about a product called mr. moly, is this additive along with regular dino oil sufficient to replace the break in oil? or, do you know where i can order the mlep online? thanks

Oh God!
This is a subject of HUGE debate here many moon ago. If you search back you will find I have posted a bit on it . In short use Castrol GTX. It is high in Molybdenum Disulfide but lacks some of the detergents in the Honda Break in oil...which many think doesn;t exist.

Mr. Moly sells a break in oil. The also sell a molybdenum disulfide supplement for your regular oil changes. It came recommended by my race engine builder for a VW racecar. I have also used it in my street cars with no problems.

Here's a virgin oil analysis here:

I have Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatmeant in all my cars: '04 S2000, '00 E430 and '94 LS400. All cars get better gas mileages, about 3-4% or more.

thanks for all the replies. how about the Mr. Moly oil supplement? i contacted them and they told me it was 1/2 micron Moly Disulfide suspended in 30w oil. Mr. Moly oil supplement

from all the posts i searched regarding oil, it seems the consensus was that the factory fill was very high in moly disulfide. does that sound right?

well, before you go crazy trying to find an additive uber high in moly. you probably need to figure out HOW much moly is in the factory fill.

and the after that, you can piece together an oil/additive combo that will emulate the factory fill.

if it were me... i'd run with some Mobil 5000 w/ a few oz of VSOT and not worry so much about it. and probably change the oil around 4k and then run the same thing for an interval or two until 10k and then synthetic after that for 7.5k intervals or so.

remember, its hard to find a engine that died because of lubrication, but they do die very often because of lack of lubrication. check the oil often, and be merry.

PS check this link for a quickie about the many faces of moly:
