Read the oil journals. Road rage is easily the most experienced and knowledgeable person on this forum regarding oil. A 30+ year tribologist and expert on the subject.

The biggest advantage synthetic has over a good conventional is longer drain interval. You can get 7500-10,000 miles on a good synthetic on the S2k. With a good conventional you can get 5000 no problem. 3000 mile oil changes are wasteful and not necessary.

Also, there are good conventional oils out there such as Havoline's GF4 that perform as good, and in some cases better than synthetic oils. So from a performance aspect, synthetics really don't have much advantage over conventional.

That's enough bickering for one thread. Lots of misinformation and misconceptions here. Again, please read the oil journals.
