or, you could run some ducting out to the sides and make a double cold air intake! shabam!
I think that is what the previous owner was likely trying to do with that air box or they had a weird interpretation of air temps in an engine bay.

those holes suck hot air right in. the factory airbox was designed to direct air flow down and out thru the small slits in the under body panel

The front end of the car is designed in a very specific way to function as a cold air intake and those holes destroy that outright - nice hot rad air now gets sucked into the intake. Seal them, or try and find an airbox for free cheap from someone that put on an aftermarket intake.

After doing a lot of testing with a few different holes, you lose power no matter where you put a hole in that box. I would either seal it or just buy another box. PM davgoat as he is parting out an AP2 with 14K miles and he always have parts from wrecked cars in stock for cheap!!

Honestly, the stock intake is a piece of heatsoaking shit.

That is my interpretation of it.

You really don't understand much about the S2000.

Alright, explain it to me. Because i can feel it go completely torqueless when it heats up in hot weather. It feels like quite a bit of ignition timing being killed off from high iat's.

It likes to run hot? So does the k20, it makes more power at 195 coolant temps than 180. Not new for a honda engine...

iat's and coolant temps are different.

I just want to know why i'm wrong, or what i don't know.

I am working on an assumption here...Honda designed and engineered this car well, spent allot of bucks and used custom parts they have not used on accords or civic (other hondas). The airbox seems to be one of those parts custom designed along with the air slits in front of the radiator on each side as you look down when the hood is open. Yes there is heat soak to a point, but the car runs andperforms well once you are moving. AP1 cars do not have as much torque and higher gearing so you feel the heat soak more perhaps?

So my assumption is that the stock airbox is pretty nicely sorted out as is the exaust, intake, etc...most mods make noise and add little to over all performance, I know dynos reveal some hidden hp when you get a new intake or exaust...but the returns are minimal unless FI is employed.

So I stay with stock for a reason. Not everything,b ut the airbox and exaust I leave alone.

I rarely talk about my CAI as a "cold air intake" - I usually call it my engine loudener. Food for thought.

The box absorbs a lot of heat when you are at a standstill. I wouldn't call this a good design. When you are not moving, there is only engine bay temperature air to be sucked in up front...

Most newer cars don't have anything designed like this, as it doesn't work well unless you are moving all the time. If the stock boxes opening went over the top of the radiator and then down and fanned out to that area in the bumper, it would be VASTLY superior to how it is now.

And yes.... i understand there is stuff designed like this to add on to the stock box.
