Default Motor on 2k

I don't know if the Honda motor has a timing chain but it sounds like it's slapping when I first start it, until it's hot. 2005 S2K any help...

Take it to the dealer if you're still under warranty... PLEASE! And have them call the following person at American Honda Customer Service:

Question for those who have experience with this, why does the tensioner only make noise when it is cold? Is it possible that timing chain simply sounds like it "slaps" when cold, then once it gets to operating temp it is fine? Joe

May have something to do w/ oil pressure. In addition to the spring inside the tensioner, I believe it also relies on oil pressure to put tension on the chain. Maybe it takes a sec for oil pressure to rise on cold starts.

some piston slap is not uncommon in honda engines when cold. tensioner relys on oil pressure, but this should only take a second to get to full steam. When the oil gets warm, the pressure drops a bit too, so I don't know if this explains why it ticks when cold. It should theoretically stop after a couple seconds, unless the inlet is too small for sufficient oil to get in until its warmed up and more freely flowing.
