Mugen ECU dyno plot
Thanks for not getting too upset Jason.
I'm really not trying to pick on anybody. I just don't think it's fair to the people who haven't been around as long to at not least mention the relationship to King. Whether it actually affects your (or others') interpretation of things is irrelevant, it needs to be said as a matter of principle.
Again, I don't think anyone here doubts that Mugen products work; that is not the heart of this matter. Mugen-equipped cars win races, and that's all the proof anyone should need.
As I wasn't there, I can't really say how wrong the head-to-head races were, but if two closely matched cars are separated by as little as a few tenths of a second in reaction time, that gap will be nearly impossible to overcome. Everyone has their preference in how they like to see mods proven; in order of decreasing preference I'd like dyno plots, 1/4 mile times, G-tech runs, lap times, then side-by-sides as a last resort. I understand you can't please everyone here...
I've probably already said more than I should about sfphinkterMC's car. Perhaps he will chime in with why he's bought the Mugen stuff he has, and why for some mods he chose to go a different route. And don't worry about his sharp words; after seeing a few posts of his I can tell he sometimes just likes to try and get a rise out of people...
While you're right about the 2-3 seconds becoming 4-6 in the hands of somebody who's done Laguna a few more times, I in no way meant to slight your driving, which was excellent. But throwing statements out there like meat did does warrant a reply.
I hope that you'll have time between kicking most everyone's asses (including mine) in Topeka to look back at this and laugh. I, too, should probably not venture out of Racing & Competition too often...
Cheers,

I don't have time to read this whole thread (read the first half)... but Sunoco 100 is UNleaded. Sunoco 104 is also unleaded, but it will turn your plugs red.
As for the dyno numbers. I think they are indefensible. Mugen shouldn't sell parts that do nothing but hurt performance. I'd be PISSED. I've tried enough sh!t on my car that lost power, so I've given up. But I understand how disappointing it is.

As for dyno's and other stuff. Real world is where its at. If you can pull on another car with having put mods on your car then the gains are there. NO MATTER WHAT THE DYNO SAYS. Dyno's don't make your car go faster on the street or make you faster at the track.
Though I will say that the Mugen Hard top makes a difference in pulling power on the highway.(aerodynamics baby!) Though I know you guys in Asheville did top up and hard top runs to make things as close as possible.
Simply those who are saying that the DYNO is the end all be all of the mods well..........its not!!! Doing side by side runs with another car is what makes the difference. It is realistic and if that other car has nothing changed to it and yours changes then they are your control to base gains off of. Heat and other variances will be accounted for because you will be both in the same weather.
I have no financial ties to Mugen except for the fact that I have thier header in my car and love it. Its low to mid range power nothing to speak of on the top end. I also have Mingsters CAI which makes NO power though feeds the engine ambient air.(so will prevent loss of HP)
