I can't imagine these headlights fitting in a toaster oven lol. It took up almost my entire oven and it's full size.

You can do it anywhere you want but here's why I won't recommend it. The strip left open when doing it the way we have all done is right above the bulbs. This still allows for the light to shine through at a safe quantity.
Moving the strip over to the side will decrease the amount of light substantially to the point I would be worried about the safety (and legality) of someone not being able to see your blinker when activated.

...I made sure I got a good amount of silicone on the area where the plastics meet...As long as you get a good amount of silicone on the lights and give them a final bake once everything is back together you will be fine.
I've converted well-over 400 sets of headlamps for customers with zero moisture issues. All by following basically the same simple 'button-up' steps offered above
...By strict interpretation of what AP1_S2k wrote, the only difference I'd say I've done is that I don't put the bead of added silicone in-between the 2 halves, but rather I bake the 2 halves back together...then I add a final bead of silicone where the 2 halves joined. That said, I'd also point out that in the few instances where I've opened a set of headlamps and the existing sealant seemed excessively dry, *there* I would follow AP1_S2k's thoughts and I'd add a bead of silicone right in the 'crevass' along the black half of the headlamp...then squish the two halves together...then bake...then add final 'seam bead'. Make sense?

II had issues the first time I opened mine up but the second time around I made sure I got a good amount of silicone on the area where the plastics meet and I have driving in the rain for about three days straight with no issues. As long as you get a good amount of silicone on the lights and give them a final bake once everything is back together you will be fine.
