buying the oem ap2 pistons 3mm headgasket and arp studs will put me back at least 1k which i dont have at the time. the build i have planned right now will only put me back 500 since i already have all the parts... ill just drive the car na till my financial situation improves. it would be ideal to maintain the project as is and include the arp headstuds and 3mm headgasket (aus2000) but im afraid compression will remain too high for fi due to the ap1 pistons.

realistically fi wont come till christmas...

Be patient grasshopper...looking good for your August idea...do it all at once...otherwise Aus is on the right track.

the money for the fi is unavailable right now and truth is neither is patience due to the fact ive been locked up the last 2 years. all i want is my car to be running and ready to have fi slapped on when the time comes without having another engine rebuild be put into place. i am going to take the advice of aus2000 and purchase the headstuds and gasket... now i want to be able to keep the current ap1 pistons... is this going to leave the compression too high for fi?

Compression will be fine for FI with the 3mm gasket. I think it will be a bit higher than mine (coz of the AP2 crank and rods) but with the right tune it'll be ok.

i was told the ap1 pistons in an ap2 would up the compression up too 11.8:1 and the 3mm headgasket brings it back what .3? seems foolish on my part to not buy some ap2 pistons dont you think?

have you heard of anyone running boost on such high compression? i would hate to be a guiney pig.

Firstly, it's AP1 pistons in an AP1 block. The only parts that are different are the rods and cranks. They are what results in a higher compression.

And the 3mm head gasket reduces the compression much more than 0.3. It's closer to 2. There's a table somewhere that shows OEM (0.7), 2mm and 3mm and the resultant compression on an AP1. Look it up.
