Thumbs up My car continues to run WITHOUT the Key

My car is strange.

For the 3rd time now, I pulled into the garage, turn the key into the off position and removed the key and the thing is still running. The first time it happened I assumed it had something to do with the key cylinder. I stuck the key in and turned it just continued to run. After messing with for a bit I found that turning off the cruse ready button turned off the car. When it's doing this, I can press the cruse button on and off and it turns the gauges on and off like the car is running. It does not engage the starter nor can I start the car with the start button but you can hear the fuel pump run.

I don't know if this is related, but my cruse control has been a bit wonky too. It shuts off at random intervals on my long highway drives and it sometimes the it does not want to accelerate.

Grounding issue maybe? How would I test if it is?

Thanks in advance!

The car was used 6.5 years ago. The car was in good shape and looked like it didn't even have and aftermarket radio in it. I have installed a head unit and an amp and didn't see any splices or the like. I service my own car and have for the past 6.5 years and I have never notice anything out of the ordinary.

That's not to say a wiring issue is out of the question. Not sure where to start.

This is a new thing. It has happened 3 times over the past 3-4 months.

Thanks for the quick replay.

Clearly sounds like the key clyn is worn out. Juggle the key when it doesn't turn off, and put pressure as you turn it. The ccontrol on hondas is junk, but not on the same circuit.

That is what I thought at first but the cruse button turns the car off and the fuel pump on after it has been turned off. I can put the key in and turn it, jiggle it, press on it and that has no effect. It stops doing it after about 3 mins. When it stops acting up it is just a random even. I may not even be touching the car when it decides to stop acting up.

I'm going to dig around and see if I have the video from the first time it happened.

Stay tuned....

Hmmm... I don't know? I will do some research and see if it can cause the problem I'm having. A quick look suggests I could cause a similar problem. I will keep you posted on what I find.

Thanks for the suggestions
